One way to get a feel for the culture of an independent school is to follow them on social media. Most the top independent schools in Buckinghamshire have twitter accounts and increasingly also a presence on Facebook and Instagram. The social media updates give you a feel for what’s important to them, what they want to share and lots of great achievements. You’ll find that some schools really focus on their sporting achievements or academics while others have a strong family feel. Beachborough – 5th May – So lovely to see our Reception children playing together and using their imaginations to turn their outdoor construction blocks into robot limbs and zombie blasters! What a fun way to enhance their creative development and communication skills.
The Beacon – 4th May – Congratulations to our six exceptional Year 8 Maths candidates who progressed to the UKMT Grey Kangaroo Challenge in March. The boys competed with other top mathematicians in the UK, all aged around 16 years. They did amazingly well and we are extremely proud!
St Mary’s School – 4th May – Lovely to be back in the classroom with Year 9. Currently exploring Farce and creating some hilarious scenes!
Gayhurst School – 4th May – Well done to Max in Year 4 who cycled 100 miles in April for the Kids Cancer charity and raised over £900!!!
Davenies School – 4th May – These stunning entries for the @HaileyburyUK Prep School Virtual Arts Challenge – the theme of which is to create something inspired by the work of William Shakespeare – have earned Robert and Calvin joint Artists of the Week
Milton Keynes Preparatory School – 4th May – Wellbeing Day on Friday was a big success with the children. Among the many activities on offer were singing, dancing and crafting – making stress balls, affirmation jars and bath bombs – there was Conga dancing on the Astroturf and following a picnic lunch on the playing field, plenty of running and jumping in the fresh air at the MKPS Olympics, including the presentation of the Olympic flame on the podium!
Thornton College – 4th May -Thornton has won two categories in the Independent Schools Association (ISA) Remote Learning Celebration 2021, for providing excellence in remote learning since the beginning of the pandemic. Another fantastic achievement for Thornton!
Wycombe Abbey – 4th May – We are thrilled to be winners of the #TesISAwards for our Sixth Form Enrichment Programme: The Carrington Award.
Chesham Prep – 1st May – Fantastic news! Year 1 pupils welcomed some new arrivals this week when the two golden eggs that they have been looking after hatched and revealed baby unicorns! Nurse Hayley was called to check on the babies and they were pronounced healthy and both girls. The children have called them Delilah and Lollipop. We will update you on their progress as they grow up.
Heatherton – 30th April – To end an exciting week, Year 1 were given a fun mission by Miss Durrant in Forest School! They were to use objects from the natural world to create a picture in a frame. Their creative ideas included a beach scene, The Great Fire of London, a house and a slug on a surf board!
Akeley Wood – 30th April – Students in Years 4 to 6 are taking part in Google’s Be Internet Legends learning how to become safe and confident explorers of the online world. Students answer questions about e-safety which then provides instructions on how to build their trophy!
Caldicott – 30th April – What a great evening! Well done to these U13 boys who finally got to play some rugby this season in a superb fixture with @maidsrfc thank you for the game and the hospitality. Great to see rugby being played!
Pipers Corner School – 30th April – Lots of Forest School fun this week as the Year 4 students were challenged to build a waterproof shelter that could survive the watering can test! Meanwhile, Pre-Prep tested out the new ropes and enjoyed being in the great outdoors.
Ashfold School – 30th April – The boarding house has been buzzing with activity this week. Lots of outdoor fun and the boarders have certainly been making the most of enjoying the school’s facilities with their friends each evening!
Dair House School – 30th April – Year 4 got to play Softball at Farnham Park today and Miss King captured some fantastic photographs. The children were beyond excited to put into practice all that they had learned over lockdown.
Gateway School -30th April – Gateway Preschool had an exciting week pretending to be pirates. Early in the week they found a letter in the garden that had been left by the Preschool fairies. The letter was a call for help – they needed help decoding an ancient treasure map. This led to lots of exploration of phonics and simple number sentences and the children were amazingly engaged. To end a great week, there was a Royal Pirate Party and the children enjoyed wearing their jewels and celebrating their achievements. The Preschool pirates made sure to share their treasure with the fairies and left them a thank you note too. Hopefully the fairies will be in touch again soon.
Broughton Manor Preparatory School – 30th April – The children in Junior Prep have been hard at work weeding their raised bed this week, so that their radishes, onions and carrots have room to flourish. They described this weeding time as ‘calming’ and have linked this to the work that they have been doing recently in Wellbeing.
Maltman’s Green – 29th April –The Year 5 girls loved their Henry VIII themed drama workshop today. Lots of laughing and creativity. Many thanks @aesopstheatre
Webber Independent -28th April – Our Science Club have been learning about the effects of pressure this week! The children created devices to make a foil ball float using high and low pressure. As the children blew into the cone the high pressure forced the foil ball up, as the air flows up the sides of the cone, it spreads out and the pressure is lost. This makes the foil ball bounce up and down as it hits high and low pressure. Interesting stuff Science Club! Well Done!
Godstowe Preparatory School – 23rd April – We are thrilled that Godstowe has been chosen as a finalist in @BSAboarding ‘s ‘Supporting Junior Boarders’ Award 2021. Congratulations to our amazing boarding team who work so hard to make Godstowe a true home from home & a wonderful experience for the girls!
Thorpe House School – 21st April – Yr2 threw themselves into their new topic, ‘Dragons and Dinosaurs’ today, with a connected curriculum! In drama, they time travelled to the Jurassic Period to spot a Megalosaurus! Next lesson, they became palaeontologists and searched for clues to answer questions. They collaborated to complete the differentiated challenge and the project culminated in measuring out the grand length of the magnificent Megalosaurus!
