The training starts with archery and plenty of goes to hone your skills. Next it was time for jousting with a hobby horse and lance.  I love the creativity that Oxford Castle put into creating these school holiday events. The challenge was to hit the shield and watch out for ‘Bob’ on the other side who could swing round and get you. Even after this part, my son kept being drawn back to have another go.

Sword skills are a must for all brave knights – attacking and defending. The children learnt three moves and then took turns to advance upon the target dummies while dodging soft balls being thrown at them. Shields at the ready and swords out, they move in for the attack. One little girl was so sweet giving gentle nudges with the sword. My son has two big brothers and this seemed to unleash a full force attack from him! You get to bring your sword home with you and my answer to ‘can I sharpen it when we get back’ was a definite no!
