1940s Weekend at the Chiltern Open Air Museum
14 August, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 15 August, 2021 @ 5:00 pm
Join the party atmosphere with popular 1940s music playing from an original US Army Air Force Jeep!
On 14th and 15th August we will be hosting a 1940s themed event which will be attended by ‘Jeep, Jump, Jive’. They will be demonstrating Lindy Hop social dancing and delivering fun classes suitable for all ages and abilities. The Lindy Hop dance arrived in Britain with American GIs and soon became a craze.
We will also be joined by the Oxfordshire Home Guard Living History Group who will vividly describe life on the Home Front during WWII.
Please also feel free to explore our 1940s prefab and learn more about their popularity and the new found luxuries which they offered such as fridges and ovens. Our ‘Dig for Victory’ allotment also contains examples of staples which were grown during the War and subsequently when the ‘Dig for Plenty’ campaign was introduced.
Our reconstructed WWI and WWII Nissen Huts also both contain information about the World Wars and some local war heroes.
For further information about this event, please continue to check the museum’s website and its social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).
