Less than 2 hours drive from Oxford, the Forest of Dean makes a great weekend away. With beautiful ancient forest, canoeing on the River Wye and great family biking, there is lots to keep the family busy. Bracelands Campsite is a great central spot to camp and access the nearby attractions.
The campsite is part of the excellent Camping in the Forest group. The campsite is situated on gently sloping open grassy fields, next to the forest and offers lovely spacious pitches.
Bracelands Campsite Facilities
There are large shower, toilet and washing up facilities at the campsite. There is also a laundry. Stock up well before you go as the reception shop only sells drinks, ice creams and very basic supplies. The nearest shop is a drive away.
Things to Do
You can easily enjoy a day enjoying exploring the forest on foot from the campsite. You’ll find lots of dens already made. If you’re feeling more adventurous, head to Symonds Yat, on the River Wye, for canoe hire. There is also a hand pulled ferry boat crossing the river here which looks fun. For biking, check out Pedal A Bike Away, a short drive away. You can hire bikes here (including tag alongs, bike seats and trailers). From the car park there are brilliant car-free family trails and mountain biking trails. We tried the fairly flat 11 mile circuit through the forest which was stunning and highly recommended. There’s also a fab cafe serving good coffee, bacon rolls and ice creams.
